One repayment can be simpler. The right structure matters more.
How consolidation works.
Debt consolidation combines higher-interest debts, such as credit cards, a car loan or a personal loan, into your home loan or one new loan. Instead of managing several repayments at different rates, you have a single repayment, often at a lower home loan interest rate.
There are two potential benefits. Repayments can be simpler to manage, and because home loan rates are often lower than credit card or personal loan rates, your total monthly repayments may reduce.
Consolidation is not only for people in financial difficulty. For many households it is about seeing the full picture and making their finances easier to manage. We also explain the trade-offs, including that spreading a short-term debt over a longer loan term can increase the total interest paid, so you can decide with a full understanding.
From four repayments to one.
Before: four payments
Four due dates and four rates to manage.
After: one payment
One due date, one rate and one balance to track. This can be simpler to manage and may reduce your monthly repayments.
Illustrative example only. Rates and outcomes depend on your situation, and consolidating short-term debt into a longer-term loan can increase the total interest paid over time.
How clients describe the difference.
“Rolled three loans into one and reduced the term. First time in years our money makes sense. No pressure at all. Tim just laid it out and let us decide.”
Anthony, Erina
“Was embarrassed about the credit card creeping up. Tim made it feel normal, helped bring it into the mortgage, and we now have room to breathe again.”
Kel, Cardiff
